Thatcham Research carries out research so that it can tests vehicle security systems, trains apprentices, and provides data that insurers use to classify cars into insurance groups.
Category S5 Insurance Approved Tracking
The S5 vehicle trackers have a tag system. When a tag holder enters or exits the vehicle, the vehicle instantly recognises them as an authorised driver. The tracking system must comply with this method to be certified as a Thatcham approved S5 tracker.
The Thatcham approved Meta S5 VTS has the optional facility to upgrade the system to incorporate if there’s no tag the vehicle will not start, unless authorised with your tag or on your app which is designed to override the system in case the tag is lost there are two ways of overriding this either via GSM or Bluetooth in case you are in area with no GSM reception. The Meta S5 Deadlock VTS has the optional facility to upgrade the system to incorporate for OBD protection the OBD will be operational unless authorised on the app. In case of theft when the Police are involved in pursuing your vehicle in the event of a theft, they can authorise the Control Centre to activate immobilisation to stop the vehicle when it is safe to do so and stop the thieves going any further.

Alerts and Notification
If your vehicle moves without the ignition being on, or there is no tag detected by the system, then the Control Centre will contact you to ask for confirmation that this was yourself and the movement is authorised by you.

Monitored Alarm Center with 24/7 Level 1 Police response
The Control Centre’s are monitored 24/7 so should there be any thefts, you can contact them round the clock. Equally, if there are any tampering, battery disconnect alerts or indeed any unauthorised movement they will be in contact, even if it’s the early hours.
Unauthorised Movement Sensing
The Control Centre will contact you to ask for confirmation that the vehicle is secure if it is moved without the ignition on. When installing S5 units that use a driver ID tag system, if the vehicle is without a tag, the phone will be actioned via the secure operating centre. A requirement of the S5 Thatcham criteria is that the device must be accompanied by a system that is used to verify the driver of the vehicle is an authorised user. With the Meta Trak S5 VTS devices, driver recognition can be in the form of a physical Driver Detection card. Driver Detection is a physical card-based system that requires the driver to carry a card with them when driving the vehicle. If the card is not present in the vehicle when moving, Meta Trak will endeavor to contact the registered keeper to ensure the vehicle's safety.

Every tracking device has a built-in battery backup which kicks in when the tracking devices main power source has been cut off or someone disconnects the battery. An alert will be sent by the Control Centre should the battery be disconnected/p>
Speed Alerts
As the name suggests, the GPS works to keep track of the vehicle and detects when you are speeding and will alert you.
Crash Detection
On some of the trackers we supply, there is a crash detection feature that will send an alert to your phone if the car is involved in an accident, so, if you’re not with the vehicle you can check on whoever is driving and alert emergency services if needed.
Location Request
If you are away from the vehicle and want to get back to where you parked, you can request the location in the app to guide you back to the car. If, however, you have parked in an underground car park, the last location recorded before entering the underground car park will be recorded.
Optional Alarm Input
When you connect the meta S5/S7 tracker to an aftermarket alarm, you will receive push notifications from Smash Windows, tilt/motion movement, shock sensor movement, and if the door/boot or boot circuits have been compromised. The aftermarket alarm will sound and in turn, this will activate the tracker to send you a push notification.
